Fossil Rim is not your typical wild animal park. This facility is a research and preservation foundation that specializes in protecting and propagating endangered species such as the Atwater Prairie Chicken and the Cheetah. For example, the Cheetah in Africa is loosing its’ hunting grounds for a multitude of reasons resulting in shrinking the gene pool, Fossil Rim has an aggressive breeding program sending breeding animals all over the country helps dilute the gene pool. I live close to them and have recently done some drone for them cataloging the removal of cedars to support a grant they received. On this day, I was on a “back door tour” with one of the education specialist and was able to get up close and personal with some of the animals. The giraffe looks sort of goofy but actually was so close I hard a hard time getting an in focus shot. Photographing wildlife is always challenging but up close and personal makes it a no-brainer!
A friend of mines owns this building and the boutique that was there is closing due to the retirement of the proprietor. So the other day, we went in to measure the square footage and I spotted this group of items being moved out and thought there was an art photo there somewhere. Thoughts?
Here are more photos of the kids enjoying (or sleeping though) the Glen Rose 4th of July Parade. Lots of them were in groups watching as the parade went by because the people on the floats were tossing candy to the crowd so there was always a scramble as to who could get the best pieces. The local Fire Department brought up the rear of the parade with their spray nozzles pointed at the ground only to see several young men (showing off for the girls) getting their hair washed!
Glen Rose, TX holds a very typically “small town” Fourth of July Parade every year and considering how hot is was this year, they decided to hold it early in the day which made for large crowds, especially children. I focused mostly on the kids who seems to have a really big day and from what I saw, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. In this group of photos I found a very sheik young lady in a straw hat, two fathers holding their little girls, one very attentive dog, a flag waver, tow little boys who were watching the moon set over the courthouse and the little girl with an interesting statement on her t-shirt. More kids in Part 2.
